Upcoming Events – Summer 2012 – in Algarve

Some of the upcoming Summer events worth noting are:

April 8th the Easter Flower Torches Festival in São Bras de Alportel.  The streets are covered in flowers and men run through the streets carrying torches made of flowers and yelling “Hallelujah” ; the procession ends at the church of São Bras .

FIESA Sand Festival, which has the participation of artists from all over the world.  It is an exhibition of sand sculptures on the beach between Pêra and Algoz (in the Albufeira vicinity.)  People can watch the process of building these huge sculptures between April 19th and June and they will be exhibited until October.  During the nights between June and October, the sculptures will be illuminated and there will be performing arts shows to accompany this wonderful event and keep the visitor entertained.  Each year there is a new theme.

Last year’s winner was the Spider Web:

July 28th to August 5th there is the Silves Medieval Festival.

Silves will travel back to the 12th, 13th and 14th centuries.  In every corner of the town you will be able to encounter examples of medieval daily life, such as jugglers, traveling musicians, exotic parades.  The surrounding of the city of Silves of 1189  will be portrayed in great detail.  

August 26 to 29 at the Castro Marim Castle it will become a Medieval City.

Medieval tournaments, street entertainments, crafts and traditional shows.





Augutst 28 – Loulé -White Night Party

This celebration marks the end of summer – the streets and people are wearing white.  Music, street performers, stores open late – it is a night to remember and a lot of fun.
